Hey, really, is washing a flag that bad?
In Greece, where I live, burning down a flag is being considered a bad thing to do!

You're not supposed to? Huh.

This also coming from the person who hit a cardinal (our state bird) and thought it was a crime of some kind.

There is controversy on washing a US flag. It's not supposed to touch anything and is supposed to be washed by hand through spot cleaning. I stuck it in the washing machine. I doubt I'll get arrested or anything. Americans also dispose of our flags through burning, so it's kind if a mixed message. I do respect the flag, my son is a Marine, and thought by rescuing it from the thrift store and cleaning it, shows my respect. I'll continue to believe I did a good thing even though there are some who believe I disrespected it. :)

i think you get good karma points for rescuing and washing it. i found an old Union Jack my husband had stuffed in a box. it was FILTHY, so i soaked it in the bathroom sink with some Oxy-Clean. i found out later i removed WWI blood. but now it hangs in our hallway, still very old, just less gross.
