They're really easy to make. Just a long strip of fabric and stitched into place as you roll it.
I love using flax linen and keeping the edges rough. I've also started another variation of fabric corsages which I'll show pretty soon.
I was planning on writing a DIY for these and a couple of other flower pins I've made, if you're interested.
Oh, and here's a WIP which will be the front of a bag. Isn't the fence cute? I found some rusted barbed wire the other day on the side of the road and it reminded me of this fence. I have no idea what I'm going to use the wire for, but I knew it was a treasure. :-)
And, I forgot to tell you, the Handmade by Maize Etsy shop is open!

I am madly in love with the corsages... Love, Esther
I just now read your post from 8/14 and wanted to write. I just saw my 18 year old son off to Basic Training in Texas. He enlisted in the Air Force for 6 years. He was not interested in college right now and really wanted to try the military. He initially wanted the Marines but we talked him out of it. The Air Force seemed like a slightly safer choice, although we have already been told he will go to Iraq for 1 year. (but not for at least 1 year while he completes training)
My son was active in JROTC in high school and loved it. I wish he had chosen to go to college first like your son but that wasnt in his plans. Hugging him last week for the last time was the single hardest thing I have ever had to do. He left on Tuesday and we didn't know when we would hear from him again. He finally called Saturday night but the call was only long enough for him to give us his mailing address.
I am extremely proud of my son but NOTHING prepares a mother for their child potentially placing themselves in harms way. I know he will probably be safe, but if he wasnt in the military he would NEVER go to Iraq. And being in Iraq WILL put him in danger.
I'm scared every day but try to focus on the amazing sacrifice he is making. I also like to think about the amazing man he will become.
Just wanted you to know that there are other mom's like you out there. Keep your spirits up and be THANKFUL that he will go to college first. Maybe, by the time he finishes, the world will have changed for the better.
(be happy he isn't going to Basic now - my sons friend leaves for Marine basic next month and has already been told that immediately upon graduation, he will be deployed to Iraq)
Here is the link to the blog I started to keep my son updated on life at home as well as to keep friends/family updated on him.
It has been a great tool for me - gives me a place to vent and a place to organize my thoughts.
My husband loves it - when I type on the blog, I bother him less !

Thanks for letting me share my thoughts.
The flower corsage is lovely--I can also see it on a hat. It would be great to see your DIY postings and I look forward to reading/trying them.
Barb wire would be good for a Halloween project--amongst other things, it could be a fence around a little haunted house.
Ohhhh I loooove that 2nd one, it's so girly, I'd totally wear that on a winter coat :)
GORGEOUS! Everything is so fantastic! I think my favorite flower is the third one... something about that button inside and the colors you chose. Love it! I would love a DIY for these!
PS... what's a WIP? I told you I don't sew!!! But I am dying to start, especially after seeing your work!
PPS- you need to join the party too! I did... and will don my finest party dress. Come and twirl!!!
Yes, a tutorial please! :)
I'm guessing you rip the strips, how do you keep them from over fraying over time? Can they be washed? How did you get the petal edges to stay down, rather than flip out straight, while wearing it?
Would love to see a DIY of these flowers, love them.
thanks for sharing.
Love it!!! so pretty.....
These are SO CUTE! Thanks for sharing the how to...
These are the prettiest fabric corsages I've come across. Would you make a tutorial, pretty please?!
Write on Wood:
You can find a tutorial for my frayed flower like the above here:http://maizehutton.blogspot.com/2007/08/frayed-flower.html
Enjoy!
Thanks for the tutorial! I have been doing it the hard way. I am pretty pleased to have found this.
