My Gram

I was in Montana this week visiting family. Usually my brother picks me up at the airport, but when I arrived no one was there. I gave him a quick call and discovered he was at the hospital because my Gram had just been admitted. She was found unconscious in her room by the assisted living staff and was rushed to the ER. Since he's an RN, my mother called him to come and help.

Gram is 93 and one of the sweetest people I know. This picture was taken of us about 8 years ago while we were all in Vegas. She had broken her wrist but that didn't stop her from having fun!

Gram's doing better but we had to move her to a full fledged nursing home. She's not happy about it but she has to be there. She's about 75 pounds now and deteriorating quickly. She has some dementia and is having a hard time putting thoughts together. Before I left yesterday, she told me that a cute guy had given her a bath. I told her that I'd like to move in with her just so a cute guy could give me a bath. She thought that was funny.

She's spunky and quite a fighter but I think it was the last time I'll get to see her. I'd like to remember her smiling and laughing as she's doing in this picture.

I am so sorry-

93. My gosh- what a life your Gram must have led! She looks so kind, a wonderful spirit. And how funny is she?!

What a great photo of you both... You are in my thoughts and prayers...

Sorry to hear about your Gram. My Granny is in the same situation, but was moved to my mom's home so my mom could keep a closer eye on her.
Where in Montana are you from? I am from Colstrip, but call Billings home, though I live in SoCal. I will be there in 3wks for a visit.

Oh, Maize. I am sorry. What a sweetie she is! I am sure just having you there, at this particular time, has been so good for her. And you. Love you, Esther

oh my, what lovely ladies in the photo. I totally understand the feelings about your Gram, as I'm very close to mine too. Keep those smiles and laughter in your heart forever.

I remember when my grandma went into the nursing home...sigh. You are very fortunate to have your grandmother still alive for your kids to know. I really wish my children could have known my grandmother.

What a sweet photo! My granny passed at 92. She was a spunky little 4'11" mother of six. Sweetest, funniest lady you'd ever wanna meet! I'm glad your grandma is surrounded by love.

My Grams are both still in their 70's and are full of laughter and fun. It helps me keep things in perspective and I know I still have lots to learn from them. The photo is beautiful and a wonderful memory for you.
