Mother Love

Have you ever been called from someone you can't hear? Your thoughts tell you something isn't right and you need to make them right. You struggle with the empathy you're feeling in your soul and you know you need to step up to the plate and help when no one else will. You pray for guidance to help you make the right decision.

I answered the call yesterday. We took in a 18 year old boy who's homeless. He's had a hard life and wants nothing more than to graduate from high school next month and go to a community college this Fall. My son happily rearranged his room to help accommodate the change. My husband is helping him get a job. I'm mothering him and getting him organized for life as an adult.

I know I can't save the world or feed the starving millions, but I can help one boy make a change for the better. Does it puff up my ego? No. Does it make me feel like a saint? No.

I have to do it because no one else will and because I can.

Kudos to you and your family, Maize! I know that's not why you're taking in this young man, but it still bears saying.

Giving freely from the heart is always powerful. The most powerful of all is when it's done very directly and through actions, not just by mailing a check.

As Anne Frank said:
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

Maize, may your good deeds return to you in multiples.

It doesn't make you a saint but it does make you utterly human in the best possible sense of the word.
I wish you all the best and I hope he will be able to seize this opportunity.

Hey girl, sounds like we're in similar boats right now! My husband and I were just given our 13 yearold nephew Joshua out of the blue to raise. I turn 27 in 5 days and even though I've only been a "mommy" for a few days and I'm still completely overwhelmed and scared, he's already the best birthday gift I could ever recieve :)
