Canvas Bags as Christmas Wrap

It's been raining here nonstop for over a week and --YIPPEE!!-- the sun came out yesterday for a few hours so I could take these pictures. Hopefully, we'll stay dry for a couple of days now.

For Christmas wrap this year, I've decided to freezer paper stencil canvas bags. I may do some in glitter also. I purchased a package of 3 canvas bags at Walmart for less than $6. They also have black, a cute turquoise blue, light green and a funky color pink. The way I figure it, paper gift bags cost just as much--if not more, so I thought I'd rather decorate a bag someone can reuse. The star is my favorite thus far. I wish I had time to sew all the bags myself, but I figure this is just as good.

Be sure to use simple stencils. I think initials or words would look nice also. You can find the tutorial on freezer paper stenciling here.

I thought it'd be fun to incorporate the bag as part of the gift also. This isn't anything new. Martha has something similar on her site and in her latest Holiday magazine.

She recommends printing off a graphic with iron-on paper. I've never had good luck with it though, so I'd rather do the stenciling or embroidery. This image was from my Angry Chicken mail order. I thought she'd look great on a bag.

I had to make another horse in brown for a boy. No guy would want a pink horse bag!

Well, I'm heading out this afternoon. I'm going here for one of Buck's work functions and staying the night. We're eating dinner here tonight. It's one of my favorite places to go. They have hundreds of hats all over the restaurant and the idea is to have everyone in the place wearing a different hat and change them during the evening. Everything in the restaurant is funky. They even have a front of an old car in the lobby. All the dishes are mismatched along with the glasses and silverware. There's always lots of picture taking and laughter. I'll take a few and share them with you.

I also wanted to, once again, thank all of you for your sweet comments and personal emails that you've sent regarding my blog posts these past few days. You're all darling angels sent from above and I cherish each and every one of you. I truly apppreciate everyone taking the time to come and visit me over morning coffee or after work everyday. It really tickles me to hear from you, since I'm usually here by myself with no one to talk to. It's like having cubemates at the office.

Oh, yeah....the winner of yesterday's Crafty Karma Tuesday is....

Heike in Kansas!

Thanks to everyone who entered. Don't forget there's a giveaway every week!

:-)))))))))))))))))
Also, those bags are awesome and I am totally going to steal that idea. I have a bunch of nieces who would kill for a horsey bag.

The bags are great! They would make party favor bags for my little girls future parties. I have been wanting to experiment w/ freezer paper. I have got to try it out - I'll make that a New Year resolution!!

The bags are great! I especially love the star for Christmas. You could buy the tiny bags, too, for those special little gifts.
