Day 103 Newsletter

Dear Miss Violet Blossom,

You're 103 days old today and you're well on your way to earning your Ph.D. You're so intelligent that I'm thinking of getting one of those bumper stickers that says "My Westie is smarter than your Honor Student!"

The biggest mistake I've made so far is giving you a ball of yarn to play with. Of course, it's not just any ol' ball of yarn, nope. It's Rowan chunky wool baby! It's your favorite toy and you play with it constantly and wrap yourself up until you're so tangled in it that I have to free you from it.

Now that I'm learning how to crochet, you're constantly attacking the ball of yarn I'm working with, which doesn't make me happy and you can't figure out why I keep telling you "NO!" since I gave you a ball of yarn as a toy in the first place. Dumb mom.

Just a few weeks ago, you figured out the sit and dance tricks. We continued to work on "roll over" and last week it clicked. Now, anyone, and I mean anyone, can get you to do your three tricks. I've got to start a new list of things to teach you 'cause you're like a little sponge looking for things to absorb.

I don't know what tricks I should start with next. I found my big quilting hoop the other day and I'm going to teach you how to jump through it.
I think you'd make a great circus dog.

When you aren't bugging Max, you're in my office curled up on my futon or you crawl up on this box next to Bono. I know you're developing a crush on Bono 'cause you always lick his face when you see him.

You've also figured out when the furnace turns on, hot air comes up through the vent. Now, whenever you hear it click on you run to the vent to lay on it and try catching the air with your teeth.

The other day, I told dad that we should line your food up in front of you like cocaine 'cause when you eat, it sounds as if you're snorting it up your nose.

You're always there to help me out. Like last night when I was cleaning out the fridge, you jumped right in and started licking all the little crumbs on the bottom. Wow Violet! I'll hire you any day!

You're such a delight Violet. I'm so happy you decided to come and live with us.

Love,

Mom
