A letter to my son

My son leaves for Afghanistan in a few days....

My Dearest Levi,

I want you to know how proud I am of you.  Your wanting to be a Marine isn't what I would have chosen for you, but it's not about me.  It's about you and living your life the way you envision and dream it to be.

You're doing a courageous and brave thing by putting your life on the line in the name of freedom.  You're in a brotherhood now.

Please, please be careful and follow your training.  You're my hero, so don't go trying to prove anything over there.  You're already extraordinary!

I love you with all my heart and soul.  I would trade places any time.  Please know and remember that you will be in my heart, thoughts and prayers every single day.  There are a lot of people here doing the same for you and all of the troops.  There's strength in numbers!!!

May Mother Love embrace and protect you.

God speed you home to me son.

I'll love you forever,

Mom

p.s.  I'm so happy we went on a trip together last Spring.  : )
